Designed for Ohio-based actors looking to build a strong foundation in acting for the camera, this intensive focuses on the practical skills needed to deliver truthful, compelling performances for film and television.
Whether you're transitioning from theatre, just beginning your on-camera journey, or looking to strengthen your technique, we'll focus on developing the tools that casting directors and filmmakers expect actors to bring into the audition room and onto set.
WHAT WE’LL COVER
Scene Analysis
Learn how to effectively break down a scene for auditions by identifying objectives, relationships, stakes, and the story being told. We'll explore how to make choices that feel authentic to the material while finding opportunities to create memorable, specific performances that stand out.
Tone & Acting Style
Every project has its own voice. From grounded dramas to broad comedies, network television to independent film, we'll discuss how to adapt your performance to different tones, genres, and platforms while maintaining your own unique essence as an actor.
On-Camera Technique
Build confidence in front of the camera by learning the fundamentals of professional on-camera performance, including:
• Framing and eye-lines
• Camera awareness, blocking, physicality
• Working with props
• Working with readers
• Slate etiquette and basic audition technique
• Adjusting performances for the camera
Practical Scene Work
Actors will perform assigned scenes on camera throughout the workshop, receiving individualized feedback and adjustments in real time. Scenes will be recorded and reviewed together, allowing participants to observe not only their own work but also the process of giving and receiving direction.
